Keywords — Learn More About Them

Keywords — Learn More About Them

Sharing your thoughts and opinions online is such a commonplace thing to do these days. Many people are indeed on the lookout for information that might be of help to them before they make a shoe purchase, go on a trip to a totally foreign land, or dine in a restaurant that’s new to them. Informative blogs are just as in-demand as food these days!

Now, bloggers at the very least want their content to be searchable. This means that their pages are being found by search engines such as Google and shown to users as part of their search results.

Searchability of pages and other content online is highly dependent on keyword use. Simply put, the content being put out must revolve around the keywords that people use to search for the information online. But are all keywords equal? Most definitely not! Keep reading to learn more about why keyword choice matters when posting content online.

Search Volume

Like anything else, keywords can be arranged according to popularity. There are certain keywords that are just more popular than others. Needless to say, the more popular keywords are those that represent widely known concepts such as famous products, celebrities, and other similar things.

As a blogger who wants to get noticed, it’s wise if you target the more popular keywords in your pages. Because of this, it is important for you to get an idea of a keyword’s search volume – the number of users searching for it – before you start working on your next post. The search volume can pretty much determine how long the article should be. The bigger the search volume, the longer the article should be.

Google Keyword Planner within the Google Ads suite is a good tool that you can use to find out the search volume of the keywords that you aim to target. Like any online tool, you need to have a stable internet connection for it. If you are a blogger who’s always on the go, you’d really need a stable data provider such as SMARTY Mobile to keep you supported.

Long-Tail Keywords

In the previous section we talked about keyword popularity and how the popular ones should be featured in your pages. While we won’t negate this here, we surely did not mean to say that the less popular ones are utterly useless.

Sometimes, the less popular keywords are just the more specific version of the popular ones. For example, “Kyrie 5” is a popular keyword that pertains to a very popular shoe of the same name. “Kyrie 5 Spongebob” is still well known, but less popular than the first one. “Kyrie 5 Spongebob Size 10” is going to be a not so well-searched term, probably figuring in just a hundred results.

But does that mean that the third keyword is worthless? Not necessarily. “Kyrie 5 Spongebob Size 10” is an example of a long-tail keyword. It’s called long-tail because it’s among those keywords that are not so popular, therefore in the tail of the curve if the number of searches per keyword is graphically presented. While it’s not so popular when it comes to searches, its value lies in the intent of those who are actually doing their searches using it. They are most probably more inclined to buy compared to those who are just searching “Kyrie 5,” who might just be trying to get more information about the shoe. Now, if you are as concerned about converting your visitors to buyers as you are about getting traffic to your page, then long-tail keywords should be in your toolbox.

Using keywords is necessary in making websites relevant. But they hold more power than meets the eye. Learn more about them so you’d know better how to make them work to your advantage.
