Comparing WordPress, Wix & Squarespace — Who is The Winner?

As we are all aware of WordPress, Wix and Squarespace and its popularity. But which platform to use for your business? How will you make the right decision? Well no worries, we are here to rescue you. We are going to compare all these 3 platforms and will discuss the pros and cons of each platform.

The basic difference among 3 of them is that both Wix and Squarespace is available online with the full feature and contains all built-in tools whereas WordPress is a software that needs to be installed on a web server before you can use it.

To use either Wix or Squarespace, visit their websites, sign up to create an account, and then you can easily start building your website by selecting a theme and use their online builder to modify the template according to your needs. Whereas WordPress, on the other hand, is a bit different. You just can’t build a website right away. At first, you need to a domain name and then get access to a web server. Then install WordPress in your domain, once installation is complete select your preferred them, add plugins and customize it according to your needs.

Now let’s discuss and compare all three of them from terms to terms

1.Flexibility

Wix is not an opensource, so the types of customization you want to do are not possible. You need to take their other services to customize it according to your preference. All the required tools are provided to you by Wix. However, if you want to add any widgets that are not available in Wix, it won’t be easy. But Wix has an App Market where you can find tools that are looking for to customize the site and if any issues arise, Wix has there dedicated support team to solve your problem.

As WordPress is an open source platform, you can modify your website in any way you want as you will have full access to the codes. And to customize your website with other functionalities we can do it with a free or a premium plugin. Select the right plugin for your site, but by purchasing a bad plugin it will open a backdoor of your website and hackers can harm your site and demolish its performance.

Squarespace flexibility is similar to Wix, but Squarespace comes with a 14day trial option where you can test the platform in any way you want, but after the trial package ends you need to buy their premium services to use it for your website.

2. Ease of Use

Wix website builders can be used with ease, it is a much easier platform than WordPress. You can just simply drag & drop and build your website and the best part is you don’t even have to write a single line of code. If you are a non-technical and you don’t prefer coding then Wix is the right choice for you. Wix provides you with a very elaborate user guides that are really easy to understand and you can easily build your site on your own.

Learning WordPress is a bit more challenging than Wix. The main reason is that WordPress you cannot just build a site with drag & drop, this feature is only available in few premium themes. In free themes, to change anything WordPress you need to modify the code directly. WordPress is a powerful platform if you can use it effectively and modify the codes in a way to achieve your desired goal. If you don’t have any idea about coding and you don’t want to buy a premium theme with a visual builder then WordPress is not your choice.

In Squarespace, you easily work with ease as you can do in Wix, it features are similar to the Wix. The only difference is its trial option of 14days, then you have to buy their premium services to use it for your website.

3. User Support

Both Squarespace and Wix provides dedicated support. You can also get help from them through live chat or email. Whereas WordPress has such a big community with all its resources and tutorials, but they are not well organized. Most of the users end up paying developers to solve their problem.

4. Ongoing Maintenance

Both Wix and Squarespace is a very closed system so they handle everything for you. You don’t have to resolve such issue. All this is maintained by the Wix in the background. Whereas WordPress requires frequent maintenance especially when a theme or a plugin is updated by the developers. You should keep everything updated by yourself and maintain it.

5. Pricing / Ongoing Commitments

Squarespace comes with 4 different premium plans, check their website to see everything in details. Whereas Wix offers you 5 different premium plan, check their website to see everything in details. WordPress is completely free but the pricing totally depends on the types of customization you want such as premium plugin and themes, domain and hosting cost, maintenance cost and much more.
