Top 10 Statistics About WordPress Usage

I cannot imagine my blogging career without the presence of WordPress. Can you? I can name two-three dozens of reasons why WordPress is one of the reasons behind my fortunate career. I am sure you are already aware of how popular WordPress is.

To increase your affection for this beloved blogging platform, here are some facts and statistics about WordPress usage. I am pretty sure you are going to share this compilation with your social network after done reading it.

#1 WordPress is available in 51 languages

If you don’t want to learn English, then that’s not an issue because you can change almost everything in the Dashboard area in your native language. At this moment, 51 languages are supported by the platform, and I am sure yours is already covered.

#2 17 posts are published every second

This particular fact not only shows the exact number of users, but also shows how many of them are using the platform. 17 posts are hit published every second, which counts to 61k+ posts in an hour and billions in a day.

These websites are the one that are publishing content on regular basis. The one that are static are not in the count. You can imagine the total number of users alone by this fact.

#3 5.5 million comments every month

Automattic Inc, the owner company of WordPress, offers a plugin named Akismet, which works in the background to remove and keep the spam comments away from the websites. This helps in reducing the total number of spam comments received in a day. According to the statistics issued by the same plugin, the number of comments received by WordPress driven websites in a month, is 5.5 million and counting.

#4 14.7 billion monthly Page Views

If we combine the page views received by every WordPress website, every month, then it can cross the mark of 14.7 billion easily. Another stat that proves how many WordPress driven websites are covering the World Wide Web. This number is even bigger than the total number of people alive on Earth.

#5 Widely used for Business websites

In spite of being a blogging platform, WordPress CMS is being used by business websites more than the personal ones. This is another fact that can ensure you how secure, simple and powerful this CMS is. The platform is already capable of hosting any website (almost) and the developers are actively working to improve this feature further.

#6 Over 34k Plugins developed so far

Plugins are the main juice behind the powerful functionality of this CMS. More than 34 thousands of plugins are developed and available for the official WordPress.org platform. There are dozens of third-party plugin stores too, which offers both free and premium plugins. If we count them too, then this number will grow further.

#7 37 million global searches for ‘WordPress’ and related terms

I was shocked after knowing that WordPress.com website receives unique visitors than amazon.com in a month. This fact reflects the reason 37 million global searches are being for WordPress and any other related terms.

This number is twice than Google-owned Blogger platform receives. Joomla and Drupal are the third and fourth most popular CMS. And since there is a good number of unique visitors every month, the number of people joining the community for the first time, are always there.

#8 WordPress owned Akismet is number one in tally

In the total 34k plugins, if we create a tally based on popularity and an active number of installs, then Akismet is going to be at the number one place, no matter what criteria you are looking with. And, the reason this stat is attached with WordPress, is because Akismet is developed by Automattic Inc. It is the best plugin to stop spam on your blog or website, whatever you call it.

#9 Websites updated to latest version are just 22%

The CMS is available as open-source which clearly means that its vulnerabilities are opened to anyone who is interested and capable of using it against. This is the reason WordPress developers are always fixing bugs, performance and security issues and releasing quick updates, as soon as possible.

All the updates are free to proceed but still there are only 22% of total websites which are updated to latest versions. The rest of the websites are not updated on time and thus, left with open vulnerabilities. This is one of the prime reason behind hacking events on WordPress websites.

#10 25% WordPress users are earning full-time living

This is my favourite fact. Around a quarter of WordPress users around the world, are making a full-time living from it. This is the most important factor and reflects how capable and simple it is to make a website that can generate revenue.

If the CMS weren’t simple and fully capable of running a website with dozens of features, it could have never been used by this number of people to create revenue earning websites. Other CMS like Joomla and Drupal (many more) are there, but none of them is as simple and yet functional as WordPress.

Bonus Fact – Only 283 employees are working in Automattic Inc

I read Matt Mullenweg interview and found that the Automattic Inc invest a lot of time and energy in finding right candidates to work for them. In spite of having all such big numbers and being the number one blogging platform, there are only 283 employees behind this marvellous platform.

In that interview, Matt shared his plan for company’s growth and keeping the employees limited to a number is one of them. Their main focus is to get a right person out of hundred instead of employing dozens of them.
